Introduction

What is a Possum?

A possum is a furry animal that likes to live in trees. You can find possums in Australia, New Zealand and some of the islands close to Australia.

Possums are marsupials.

marsupial is an animal that gives birth to live babies instead of laying eggs.

Female possums have a pouch for their babies.

Baby possums drink milk from the mother possum’s teats.

Possums are nocturnal.

This means they sleep during the day  and hunt, eat and play at night time.

 

Night, night possums! Sleep tight.

A female possum is called a Jill

A male possum is called a Jack.

I wonder if Jack and Jill went up the hill? Ha ha!

A baby possum is called a Joey.

There are 23 different types of possums in Australia

but the two most common ones are the

     Brushtail Possum            and the            Ringtail Possum.
