What do possum families look like?
Brushtail Possums like to live by themselves and only look for other possums when they want to breed and have a baby.
Ringtail Possums like to live with other possums in a family group.
There can be one male and one or two females in the same nest.
The possum family look for food together at night.
Possums are tiny when they are born. They crawl up into their mother’s pouch and stay in there drinking milk from a teat for around 4-5 months.
Baby possums have no hair when they are born. They are called Joeys.
Baby possums ride on their mother’s back when they get too big for the pouch.
That would be fun! Piggy back time.
Ringtail Possums can have 2 or 3 Joeys at a time!
That would make the pouch very squashy.
Possums can live up to 11 years.
This means they can keep on having lots of babies!
